A Working Creek, a Working Day

Diablo Creek Golf Course Concord, California

Public golf in Concord, with Mount Diablo watching from the east and the rest of the East Bay going about its business.

The place

Diablo Creek is the kind of municipal course that keeps golf honest. It sits in Concord with the mountain that named it somewhere over your shoulder, and it does not pretend to be a destination resort. Water, trees, and a layout that rewards people who came to play—not to be seen playing. For a Northern California golfer, this is neighborhood golf in the best sense: close enough to life that you remember why you started.

What it asks of you: Some of the most useful rounds happen on courses that never asked to be famous.

JW’s personal notes from the round will live here — the funny moment, the people, the 19th hole — without inventing what hasn’t been written yet.
