Tri-Valley Ridges, Protected Land

Callippe Preserve Golf Club Pleasanton, California

A preserve course in Pleasanton, built on ridgelines with East Bay views and the feeling that the land was here first.

The place

Callippe Preserve is named for a butterfly, which is either charming or a warning depending on how your ball flies. The course occupies high ground above Pleasanton. The Tri-Valley spreads out below. It is golf as landscape architecture: wide views, native grasses, and a reminder that some of the best Bay Area holes are inland, not coastal.

JW’s personal notes from the round will live here — the funny moment, the people, the 19th hole — without inventing what hasn’t been written yet.
