State Number Two, Sagebrush Light

Carson Valley Golf Course Gardnerville, Nevada

A Nevada round in Gardnerville, with the Sierra on one side and valley ranch land on the other.

The place

Carson Valley is what a second state looks like when you live in California: a drive over the mountains, a different flag, the same game. Gardnerville sits in ranch country south of Carson City. The light is drier. The horizon is wider. Crossing into Nevada for golf is a small border crossing with a large meaning for a 50-state list. The stamp is real even if the drive was easy.

What it asks of you: A new state does not require a new personality. It just requires showing up.

JW’s personal notes from the round will live here — the funny moment, the people, the 19th hole — without inventing what hasn’t been written yet.
